60th Annual Chamber Banquet

While snow was falling outside there were tears falling inside the Memorial Building at the Harney County Fairgrounds. Recipients of the 2009 Chamber Awards showed many emotions but the most popular was that of surprise followed by tears of joy.
Emcees for the banquet were Joyce Moser and Bill Wilber whom both received awards during the ceremony. Along with Joyce and Bill recipients of the awards are as follows:

  • Boss of the Year: Pamela Mather
  • Business Person of the Year: Mary Jo Davies
  • Distinguished Service of the Year: Jan Cupernall
  • Educator of the Year: Barbara Mayer
  • Grassman of the Year: Alfred Dunten and Carol Miler Dunten
  • Lumberperson/ Manufacturer of the Year: Not Awarded This Year
  • Man of the Year: Dr. John L. Bauer
  • Senior Man of the Year: Bill Wilber
  • Senior Woman of the Year: Helen McCart
  • Woman of the Year: Joyce Moser
  • Young Farmer/Rancher of the Year: Shane Otley
  • Crane Student of the Year: September O’Crowley
  • Burns Student of the Year: Philip Kness

Dinner featured prime rib and was finished off with carrot cake from the Francis Estep Catering crew and was served by the Burns High School and Hines Middle School bands. Accompanying the dinner was a nice array of background music brought to the crowd by Nathan Ritches of Hilander Sound and Light.

Award winners of the table decorating challenge received gifts from Bella Java Bistro and Baloon Express and were awarded to the Harney Arts in Education Foundation for most creativity and to Payroll Services for best representing their business.
